Kuching, 10 July 2026 – The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak conducted a two-day workshop on the proposed enforcement date of the Order under Article 95C of the Federal Constitution and the draft Natural Resources and Environment (Scheduled Wastes Management) Regulation, 202X held on 9 to 10 July 2026 at 56 Hotel, Kuching.
The workshop aimed to discuss NREB’s preparedness in assuming the responsibility of scheduled wastes management from the Department of Environment (DOE), as well as to undertake a detailed review and scrutiny of the proposed regulation to ensure effective implementation.
The session was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development, NREB Sarawak, Sarawak State Attorney-General’s Chamber (SAGC), and DOE. Discussions focused on key administrative, legal and operational aspects related to the transition of scheduled wastes management responsibilities.
The participants also discussed plans to organise further engagement sessions with DOE in Kuching and Putrajaya to review and address matters recorded in the Record of Discussion from the previous Scheduled Wastes Management meeting held at Pullman Hotel, as advised by SAGC.
The workshop served as an important platform to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and ensure a smooth transition towards an effective scheduled wastes management framework in Sarawak.
