Kuching, 13 July 2026 – The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) held a discussion with Tumujin Sdn. Bhd. on waste management and greenhouse gas emission reduction initiatives related to palm oil mill operations.

The discussion was chaired by Deputy Controller (Operation), ChM. Penny Anak Sumok, and attended by representatives from relevant NREB divisions including Policy and Planning, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Research and Development, and Waste Management.

Key issues discussed included challenges in managing palm oil waste streams such as high diesel dependency, underutilisation of biogas systems, limited methane recovery from Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME), and difficulties in processing Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB).

Tumujin Sdn. Bhd. also presented a circular economy initiative involving biogas recovery, EFB pelletisation, pyrolysis and biochar production to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote renewable energy generation.

The discussion further explored the utilisation of oil palm replanting biomass, including trunks and fronds, as additional resources for sustainable waste management and low-carbon development.
