Kuching, 14 July 2026 – The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with support from MUFG, successfully concluded the High School Waste Management Programme with the Toolkit Handover and Appreciation Ceremony held at the Sheraton Hotel, Kuching.

The pilot programme involved students from SMK St. Joseph and SMT Sejingkat, providing them with practical exposure to sustainable waste management practices and environmental stewardship. As the programme's final output, a Waste Management Toolkit was developed to serve as a practical guide for educators in implementing similar initiatives in schools.

The ceremony was officiated by ChM. Penny Anak Sumok, Deputy Controller (Operation), representing YBhg. Datu Jack Anak Liam, Controller of Environmental Quality Sarawak. In her closing remarks, she commended all partners, educators and participating schools for their dedication and unwavering support in advancing environmental education, particularly in promoting responsible waste management among students.

She emphasised that the initiative represents an important step towards building a Waste Smart Sarawak for a Smart Generation and a Protected Nature, while reaffirming NREB's commitment to achieving a greener, cleaner and healthier Sarawak through strong collaboration and environmental awareness.
