Kuching, 16 April 2026 – The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) participated in the Seminar Ekspedisi Saintifik Hutan Simpan Sabal dan Hutan Simpan Simunjan, held from 14 to 16 April 2026 at UCSI Hotel Kuching. The seminar was organised by the Forest Department Sarawak and brought together researchers, government agencies, and environmental experts to share findings from recent scientific expeditions.
As part of the seminar programme, NREB presented a technical paper titled “Water Quality of Sungai Simunjan and Its Tributaries” during Session 1: Environmental Quality and Ecosystem. The session was moderated by Penny Sumok.
The presentation highlighted key findings from fieldwork conducted along Sungai Simunjan and its tributaries. It underscored NREB’s role in establishing baseline water quality data, as well as determining water quality classification within the study area—an essential step in supporting long-term environmental monitoring and sustainable resource management.
The expedition and study involved a dedicated team of NREB officers, namely Valecca Sibuar, Chong Li Mei, Helda Ponen, Birun Ali, and Steve James, whose contributions were instrumental in the successful execution of the scientific expedition.
The seminar also featured a keynote address by Abdullah Julaihi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Sarawak, who emphasised the importance of scientific research in guiding evidence-based environmental policies and conservation efforts across the state.
NREB’s participation reflects its continued commitment to environmental stewardship and collaborative research initiatives, particularly in strengthening data-driven approaches to managing Sarawak’s natural resources.
