KUCHING, 25 February 2026 – The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak officially launched the Environmental Compliance Audit (ECA) Pilot Project for the agriculture, quarry and mining sectors at the Auditorium TEGAS Digital Village today.
The ceremony was officiated by Len Talif Salleh, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development, Sarawak.
The pilot marks the second phase of ECA implementation, following a successful rollout in the forestry sector. It aims to prepare the targeted industries for full enforcement of the Natural Resources and Environment (Audit) Rules, 2008, scheduled for January 2027.
In his remarks, Len Talif emphasised the importance of proactive compliance and industry self-regulation in strengthening sustainable environmental management across Sarawak. The programme began with a project briefing by Mr Mathew Losey, followed by a sharing session on forestry sector implementation by Mr Nelson Bijack James Chas.
A key highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving 14 participating companies, formalising their commitment to work closely with NREB to enhance audit readiness, improve compliance systems and ensure smoother implementation of environmental standards across the sectors.
