Kuching, 3–4 December 2025 – A two-day Environmental Quality Monitoring (EQM) training was successfully conducted at the 12th Floor, Wisma STA, Kuching, aimed at equipping participants with knowledge on water quality, sampling techniques, and analysis in support of Environmental Compliance Audit (ECA). The training also covered reporting requirements under Chapter 5 of the ECA report and relevant legal frameworks enforced by the Natural Resources and Environment Board Sarawak (NREB).
The program included lectures on NREB legal requirements by ECO Mathew Losey, covering the Natural Resources and Environment Ordinance, NRE (Prescribed Activities) Order, 1994, and NRE (Audit) Rules, 2008. Participants also attended sessions on water quality parameters, sampling, and preservation methods delivered by Prof. Dr. Tay Meng Guan (UNIMAS). Practical exercises included water sampling at nearby rivers and demonstrations of water quality analysis, featuring instruments such as pH meters, DO meters, YSI multiprobes, DR900, and micropipettes, followed by data interpretation.
A total of 22 participants from forestry, agriculture, and quarry/mining sectors, along with three from environmental consulting firms, attended the training. The closing ceremony and certificate presentation were conducted by Ag. SAC Dau Utau.
