Site Visit and Stakeholder Engagement Workshop No.2 for The Study on The Implementation of A Strategic Plan To Prevent Peat Fires and Illegal Open Burning To Reduce Haze Pollution In Sarawak

A total of 75 participants has attended the programme comprises from NREB, SAGC, MUDeNR, MEESty, DOE, Sarawak TROPI, DOA, MFICORD, FDS, SFC, SDMC, UKPS, Land and Survey Department, DID, Sarawak State Health Department, MET Sarawak, BOMBA, JMG, MPOB, JUPEM, Resident Office Miri, Resident Office Mukah, District Office Limbang, NAIM Land SB, Linau Mewah SB, Curtin University, Woodman Kuala Baram Estate, Pantai Bayu Indah SB, Imasa Dinasti SB, Miri Housing Development Realty SB and EMS Progress SB. 

The workshop’s objectives were:
1. To review the findings and recommendations of the Strategic Plan on the Prevention of Peat Fire and Illegal Open Burning To Reduce Haze Pollution In Sarawak and the Guidelines, and
2. To identify any gaps and gather stakeholder’s feedback and recommendations to strengthen our strategic direction. 

The two-day programme on 13–14 August brought together private landowners and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and strengthen strategies for fire prevention and response. The first day featured a site visit to facilities such as the watch tower, tube well, check dams and piezometer, followed by a dialogue session in the afternoon where private landowners from NAIM Land Sdn. Bhd., Linau Mewah Sdn. Bhd., and Curtin University shared their experiences, challenges and best practices on fire prevention, SOPs, manpower deployment, firefighting equipment and lessons from past incidents.

On the second day, Stakeholder Workshop 2 continued to review and refine the proposed strategic plans. Feedback and recommendations gathered will play a vital role in shaping more effective, well-coordinated and sustainable haze management efforts in the future.
