Len Talif speaking to reporters on Feb 1, 2024, after officiating at NREB's 30th anniversary celebration

Kuching, 1 February 2024 Thursday - The Natural Resources Environmental Board (NREB) Sarawak is poised to take over responsibilities concerningenvironmental autonomy from the Federal government by January 2025, announced Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, LandAdministration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
At the 30th-anniversary celebration of NREB held at Menara Pelita, Len Talif informed reporters that NREB has already commencedseveral environmental programs.
With discussions underway regarding the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the transfer of environmental matters to NREB is beingexpedited.
“We are progressively taking up all related activities, while assessing our capacity and capability to implement them,” stated Len Talif.
He elaborated on the importance of addressing the legal and financial aspects of this transition, highlighting the necessity for NREB tohave both the mandate and financial backing to execute these activities independently of the Federal government.
