BINTULU, 6 October 2023 - PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) has demonstrated its commitment to environmental and climate action through the planting 300 trees here.

The initiative, named ‘Nourish Nature, Nurture Future,’ is a collaborative effort with Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB), Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), and the Department of Environment, Bintulu Branch (DOE).

PTTEP head of Malaysia Sarawak Asset, Denkey Thatchaichawalit, affirmed the company’s involvement in the project is a testament to their commitment towards environment and education.

“Our aim is to safeguard and nurture a healthy ecosystem, particularly within the communities in Sarawak, where our operations are located.

“Nature is a natural healer, and through this initiative, we are educating and promoting the importance of nature in reducing climate change and providing natural habitat for our native flora and fauna,” he said in a statement today.

A total of 300 mixed-tree species of indigenous, fruit, and ornamental trees were planted using the notch and high-density planting methods which are suited for local soil conditions.

The nature-based solution to plant trees can rehabilitate landscapes affected by soil erosion, as well as loss of soil fertility and biodiversity.

Furthermore, the initiative aligns with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals 13 (Climate Action) and 15 (Life on Land), while supporting Sarawak’s goal of planting 35 million trees under the Malaysian Government’s 100 million Tree-Planting Campaign 2021-2025.

“Tree planting initiatives provide a cascading environmental sustainability impact as they bring key organisations in the community together and provide a platform to disseminate greater awareness of environmental protection,” Denkey said.
