KUCHING (April 17): All areas in Sarawak recorded moderate air pollutant (API) readings as of 1pm today, with Kuching and Samalaju having highest API readings of 85.

The other areas that recorded API of 80 and above were Sarikei (80) and Mukah (80).

An API reading for good air quality is from zero to 50, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy and 300 and above is hazardous.

Meanwhile, state Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) acting director Paul Bond when contacted said members of the public can get current API readings from MyIPU application and/or browse ASMC website for haze prediction.

“I would like to advise  the public to refrain from conducting open burning, stay indoors and be hydrated adequately.

“We may face this hot dry weather until August and actions can be taken against those doing open burning. NREB teams are doing patrolling now,” he added.
