KUCHING, 09 Feb 2022: The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak has inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd and WWF-Malaysia to publish a solid waste management and environmental education book for primary schools.

In a statement on Wednesday, NREB Controller of Environmental Quality, Peggy Ronin Edin said the book would be the first of its kind in the state as it is focused on teaching the younger generation the fundamentals as well as best practices in solid waste management and environmental sustainability.

"Environmental issues such as air and water pollution, severe storms and extreme weather conditions due to climatic change, resources depletion and other similar challenges can potentially turn into ecological nightmares for us,” she said.

She said the virtual MoA marked a strategic collaboration between the three parties to work together towards improving the current environmental situation through education and reaching out to the younger generation.

Trienekens Group Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Chin said the book would provide an educational resource and framework specifically to address solid waste management issues by shaping the mindset and behaviour of the society through education on the subject from an early age.

WWF-Malaysia Conservation Director, Dr Henry Chan said the publication of the book was timely and would complement the existing environmental education resources in the country.

Once published, about 500 books were expected to be distributed and used by Kelab Pencinta Alam Sekitar (PALS Club) members throughout Sarawak. - Bernama
