EIA > ForestryEIA > Forestry

A total of six EIA reports for forestry project were approved in the recent year with a total area of 75,492.40 hectares. Forestry projects involve forest harvesting may damage the forest stands and may cause soil erosion if the operations are not properly planned and controlled.

The effects of various activities in forest operations can be minimised by practising the Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) method, one of the strategies in sustainable forest management. RIL operations consist of pre-harvest operation, harvesting operation and post-harvest operation.  Nonetheless, the downstream activities such as log pond site and logging road construction had contributed to surface run-off and other related environmental problems.
